Wood Carving of Kobayashi Issa

An old hand-carved wooden figure depicting Kobayashi Issa, one of Japan’s celebrated haiku poets. Carved using traditional ittō-bori techniques, the piece has a strong geometric presence and a beautifully aged surface. Believed to date from around the Taishō to early Shōwa period.
