Nara Ittobori Wooden Monkey Sculpture

A beautifully handcarved wooden monkey sculpture by Soshin Somekawa, an acclaimed Japanese artisan specializing in traditional Nara Ittobori woodcarving.

Depicting a seated monkey with its hands resting gently on its knees, the sculpture features bold, angular carving marks characteristic of the Nara Ittobori technique, creating a distinctive geometric silhouette.

The natural wood finish highlights the simplicity of the carving, while the small painted eyes and delicate red mouth bring a playful expression to the figure.
A charming example of traditional Japanese woodcraft, accompanied by its original signed wooden storage box.
