Camellia Painted Wooden Tissue Box

A traditional Hana Tebako wooden box from Hitoyoshi, Kumamoto Prefecture. This regional craft has a history of more than 800 years and is associated with local Heike traditions.
 
Made from cedar with a beautifully visible wood grain, the box is decorated with hand painted camellia flowers in vivid red and green. A refined example of traditional Japanese decorative folk craftsmanship.
