Red Crab Lacquered Incense box

A small wooden lacquered box carved in the shape of a crab, finished in glossy red urushi. The hinged body opens to reveal a textured black interior with gold flecks. Likely produced in the Showa period circa 1960s to 1970s, it was used during tea gatherings as an incense container, known in Japanese as a Kogo.
